At the far end of Gourock you will see the Western Ferries terminal and the distinctive red boats. Take this 20 minute ferry to Dunoon (you can pay onboard). From Dunoon, drive to either Portavadie (c. 50 mins) or Inveruglas (c. 70 mins) to begin the Cowal Way. Travelling from North Scotland, either the A9 or Fort William A82 road to Loch Lomond (Inveruglas), and if appropriate continue to Portavadie.

By Bus
McGills operates a bus from Glasgow city centre to Dunoon (No 907). Click here for a timetable
From Dunoon Pier catch a West Coast Motors bus no 478 to Portavadie, passing through Glendaruel & Tighnabruaich. Click here for details

For Strachur and Lochgoilhead catch the West Coast Motors bus no 484 to Carrick Castle. The Dunoon to Inveraray bus (no 486) also stops at Strachur.  Clink here for more details.

By Train
Arriving by train, the nearest mainline stations are in Glasgow. From England and the south and west, trains arrive at Glasgow Central. There is an hourly Scotrail train to Gourock from here, which will take you to Gourock Pier, where you can get an Argyll ferry 20 minute boat journey to Dunoon. Click here for Scotrail website for times and fares . The boat drops you off at the Pier, where the buses arrive/depart. Trains from the east and north of Scotland arrive at Glasgow Queen Street. It is a 5 to 10 minute walk to the Central Station.

By Air
Glasgow International Airport is only 20 miles/30 minutes drive away from Gourock, where you can pick up the 20 minute ferry to Dunoon. Prestwick International Airport is 42 miles/around 45 minutes drive to Gourock. If you have a car, travel across on Western Ferries (distinct red boats). There are 2 to 3 boats per hour. Passengers only are better served on the Argyll Ferry (2 sailings per hour), as it sails into Dunoon town centre where you can catch a bus or taxi

Baggage Transfer
We will have a baggage transfer service in place by March/April 2016. Please check our website for more details in early 2016.
